Renewable Energy Real Estate Attorney

Position Overview

This full-time position represents a great opportunity to join our growing company in a leadership role within the Legal Team, which is integral to driving the company’s greenfield development portfolio. The position will be working closely senior management, local (state) outside counsel as well as the internal Development Team with an ultimate goal to fast-track the real estate needs for site acquisition and diligence, survey and title clearance processes. This position requires a mastery in real estate contract drafting, managing key stakeholder negotiations and incorporating state compliance needs in an often volatile and nuanced site acquisition process. Attention to detail, understanding impacts of key provisions compared to project goals, evaluating risks, resolve disputes, and proposing creative solutions are essential for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Draft and coordinate the execution of real estate agreements, such as lease and easement agreements (and associated memoranda, amendments and terminations), landowner estoppels, Subordination and Non-Disturbance Agreements and various other land and title documents.
  • Review and summarize title commitments and surveys.
  • Work closely with Real Estate Paralegal, title companies and outside legal counsel to clear title and obtain title insurance policies.
  • Coordinate, track, and report on the execution of projects, including title searches and title curative work.
  • Evaluation of mineral rights and negotiation of surface use agreements. 
  • EPC contracts and other construction related legal work. 
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives
  • Additional duties as required

Qualifications

  • 3 – 8 years of experience of real estate legal practice.  Renewable energy experience preferred but not required. 
  • J.D. from accredited law school. 
  • Licensed to practice law and in good standing in the State of Minnesota.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and oral and written communication skills.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines without sacrificing quality of work product.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, depending on the situation.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in drafting and reviewing real estate and title curative documents.
  • Experience in reviewing title work and surveys.
  • Proficient in MS Office Products, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Multi-parcel real estate experience preferred.
